Currently an Executive-in-Residence at the Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP) Global Fellowship Initiative. She is GCSP trained expert in inspiring women leaders and addressing challenges in global health security. Aged 25years, Thurman Niiwo is a Ugandan female national, and one of the emerging young African women experts in global health security, community development and social justice issues, currently creating large-scale opportunities for the poor, underprivileged, and displaced communities in Africa through the Thurman Niiwo Health Care Initiative (TNHCI). She launched TNHCI in June 2020 at the height of the Global COVID-19 pandemic to address critical challenges of the COVID-19 and its locked down associated effects of teenage pregnancies in Uganda as a results of schools closer. TNHCI mandate is strengthen to health systems for better health care outcomes among the vulnerable communities especially children, youth and women caught up in extreme poverty, refugee situations and hard-to reach areas. Through TNCHI, she founded the Young Africa Professionals in Global Health Issues Platform (YAPROGHIP). Thurman is co-owner and Director of the Uganda National Entrepreneurship Development Institute (UNEDI) in Uganda where she is incubating several projects that support young people to create jobs. She attended University of Washington specialized training in leadership and management of health; and monitoring and evaluation of global health, the UNITAR,UNCHR, IOM-UN Immigration and UNCTAD collaborative program in entrepreneurship for migrants and refugees in strengthening humanitarian development Nexus for capacity building program; UNITAR’s strengthening civilian capacities to protect civilians: Unarmed civilian protection (PP.2020.14E); United Nation’s Climate Change Learning partnership on Gender and Environment; Cities and Climate Change. Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Science in Global Health at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) in the UK, and she holds a bachelor’s degree in Community development and social justice from Kyambogo University, Kampala, Uganda.
